About Us | Newnham Engineering | Precision Engineers

Newnham Engineering Ltd is a privately owned British company which was established in 1967 by Reginald Newnham. It provides a precision manufacturing service to a wide range of industries.

In 1972 Eric Newnham took over as Managing Director, as Reginald Newnham sadly passed away.

At this time the company resided in a rented 1500 sq/ft unit in Southdown View Road industrial estate, Worthing. Eric soon took the company forward and after securing some large production contracts, managed to afford to buy a larger unit, 3000 sq/ft, in Ivy Arch Road industrial estate, Worthing.

Newnham Engineering Building

The business continued to grow and expand, and in 1981 after years of producing our components on manual machines using traditional methods we bought our first CNC lathe, an Olivetti controlled Beaver Galaxy. The virtues of which soon became clear, and triggered a continual investment in new plant in order to stay up to date and competitive, our most recent purchases in 2014 saw us take delivery of two brand new heavy duty machines.

Another key moment in our history came in the late 1980`s, where a lot of businesses were struggling to survive a very intense recession period in the UK`s economy. Newnham Engineering managed to push through this extremely fractious time, through hard work and the ability to adapt and find other markets to service. Several of our current customers have been trading with us for more than 40 years and are extremely happy with the quality and service they receive.

Newnham Engineering Factory

Our latest move in Feb 2002, was to our modern self contained factory with good on-site parking and loading facilities located on Lancing Business Park. The factory initially had 10,000 sq/ft of workshop and office area, however in March 2014 we completed a 6000sq/ft extension to our premises bringing our total workshop area up to 16000sq/ft. Incorporated into which we now have a dedicated material stores and finished stock area, plus capacity to expand our machine shop further.

Newnham Engineering has now entered a 3rd generation of management. Whilst Eric Newnham still remains as Managing Director, Phil Newnham is in charge of the day to day running of the business and holds the role of Production Director. Laurence Newnham and Chris McSorley hold new positions of Production Managers.

These continual improvements keep us true to our motto of “machining excellence”.

About Us

WHAT WE DO

Our CNC Lathes have an array of chuck sizes ranging from 150mmØ – 400mmØ. This allows our turning capacity to range up to 800mmØ. We also have a bar feeder on one machine with driven tooling meaning we can bring many jobs off complete without having to second opp them on a mill.

Our CNC Machining Centres have a range on bed sizes from 500mm-2m in X and 400mm-1m in Y. Several of our mills have been fitted with Hydraulic Rotary (4th) axis.

In the last two years we have invested in EDM wire eroding by buying out a specialist wire eroding company. Our capacity for wire eroding is 600mm length x 370mm width x 330mm height. The big advantage to wire eroding is that a very precise size is held as the wire is constantly spooling and therefore never losing any integrity.

About us 2

Having invested so much in heavy duty machines, we are very well equipped to handle a huge variety of materials such as “hard to machine” exotic alloys like Hastelloy C276 and Inconel 718, High tensile and Mild steels right down to Aluminium, Brass and Plastics.

At Newnham Engineering we like to supply a complete job, so should you have any finishing or heat treatment requirements, we will be only too happy to help arrange this though our extensive approved suppliers network.

There is no job too big or too small.
